ABBOTSFORD METHODIST CHURCH
The Abbotsford Methodist Church was crowded last evening, on the occasion of the annual meeting in connec-tion.-with the overseas missions of the Methodist Church. The Rev. B. J. James occupied the chair and introduced the Rev. A. H. Scriven, who, after 17 years of mission work in Papua, _ was now secretary of the foreign mission department of the New Zealand Methodist Church... , . During the evening a large number of coloured slides depicting the work at present being carried out in ' the Solomon Islands mission field were' shown on the screen. These slides were from photographs taken by Mr Scriven during a four months’ tour of the field last year, and were most informative concerning the medical and educational work which forms such a large part of modern missions. The speaker, who received a most attentive hearing, made a special appeal for financial assistance so that the position of medical officer at the Helena Goldie Hospital, at present vacant, might bo filled at the earliest possible moment.
