TEAM Although no longer a participant in first-class cricket. Jack Hobbs will be with the M.C.C. team on its tour of Australia this season, and, from information to hand, it is likely that he will come on to New Zealand with the team this season. Previously he had balked at the extra sea voyaging necessary to visit the Dominion, ho having made no bones about being a poor sailor. However, the chances of seeing the great cricketer here in the coming season look good, and, though Hobbs is travelling as a newspaper representative, the possibility of his being induced to have a game here should not bo overlooked. Commenting on the M.C.C. team, ho states: “ I honestly believe this party is stronger than any of us thought possible to select some little time ago. There are plenty of runs in the team if they find their form. In Copsou they have chosen a very great bowler. I like the way he gets his body into his delivery. He has long arms and is very fast off the pitch. If Verity can recapture the form he showed “ down under ” last time, play the role of stock bowler, and keep one end tight, our attack may not look so bad. “ Of the new batsmen, Fishlock and Hardstaff should get lots of runs. Fagg is also to be depended upon. Of the Old Brigade, Hammond and Leyland can be relied on with happy confidence. They have shown this season that they are quite as good as ever. AVe have also three fine all-rounders in Allen, Robins, and AVorthington.” WOMEN CRICKETERS AUSTRALIANS FOR ENGLAND The women cricketers of Australia are well organised, and have shown undoubted enterprise in their arrangements for the tour in England next season, says an Australian writer. The team will be selected by Miss M. Pedeu, Miss Debnam, and Mrs Miller, representing Now South AVales, Victoria, and South Australia respectively. Interstate trials to be played in November and December in all four cities will be followed by the selection of the team. Members of the team will be allowed 15s a 'week on board ship, and 30s a week in England as personal expenses. They must agree not to be accompanied at any time by relatives, and are not to smoke, drink, or gamble. Some people are inclined to ridicule these provisions, but there is a lot of wisdom in them. Cricket has made a good deal of progress among women in England. The Australians are likely to meet a more powerful test team than the splendid one that pioneered these tours in Australia.

DUNEDIN SWIMMING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Dunedin Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening in Wilson Hall, the president (Mr W. H. Matthews) being in the chair. There was a good attendance of members. ANNUAL HEPOiIT. In) moving the adoption of, the annual report and balance sheet', the chairman said membership had fallen away in the juniors. The efforts at coaching had been minimised by lack of time. Though the annual carnival was a financial failure, it had been very satisfactory from the point of view of swimming generally. After holding the water po.o banner in the A grade for five years, the team had been defeated last season by Kiwi A, but the B grade team had proved successful against older players. The harbour race (Batt Cup) had been swum under adverse conditions, but, after a meritorious performance, J. 0. Byrnes had emerged the victor. The outstanding feature of the season was the success of the club in the provincial championships. Largely due to the efforts of club members, Otago had obtained the Yaldhurst Shield. Of six diving championships, members had taken four first places. It was exceedingly satisfactory to note that, with three representatives at the junior championships, five firsts and one third place had. been gained. In con-clusion,-he congratulated the social club upon its efforts during the season, resulting in an addition of £l7 to the club finances. It was also pleasing to congratulate Messrs E. H. James and D. C. Bannatyne on gaining New Zealand blazers, and he considered they were quite worthy of the honour; they had taken a remarkable interest in the sport. The balance sheet was at a slightly low level because of the donation to the New Zealand championships, but the finance was in a very satisfactory position. Mr D. T. Woodfield also paid tribute to the efforts of Mrs J. M'Taggart and the Social Committee in presenting such a fine contribution to the funds during the past season. Mr E. H. James said the membership was very good, and the results in the provincial championships were very gratifying, but ho considered the total of really active members should be raised. He endorsed the chairman’s remarks in connection with the Social Committee, stating that its efforts had kept the club on its feet.

Mr W. L. Hooper said that it would be very pleasing if each member of the club made an effort to encourage new members to join. The smallness of the membership was due, said Mr 'C. Elliott,' >tb the fact that the club had no 6-7 p.m. hour at the baths. He suggested that, if a scheme for more efficient coaching were promulgated, the junior members would be much more interested, and would give better support. • It was moved by Mr D. T. Woodfield that , a minute of appreciation of the activities of the Social Committee be recorded, the motion being carried. H. _ James harbour race were presented with the trophies. SECRETARY FOR TWENTY-TWO YEARS W. A. ROWLAND’S GREAT RECORD [By H.P.S.] Re-elected to the position of secretary of the Grange Cricket Club last week. Mr W. A. Rowland is entering upon his twenty-second successive year in that important office. The sound position of the Grange Club to-day is in no small measure due to the outstanding organising and executive ability of Mr Rowland, who has given great service to the game in many capacities. A real enthusiast, he first served as a member of the Otago Cricket Association in 1918, and with the exception of a lapse of a few years he has been on the committee of the controlling body ever since. He has managed Otago teams on tour on several occasions, and was the association’s official scorer for a period of 15 years.

Club captain of the Grange Club once again is Mr C. S. Chadwick, who has held that office most successfully for many years, and whose record ns a senior cricketer over a long period was an exceptionally fine one.

Mr T. H. Elmes (father of C. J. Elmes. the New Zealand representative player) has been re-elected president, his choice being a most popular one. Mr R. M'Lean, a very staunch supporter of the game, is again Grange’s patron.
