KCTDM INF MANAGERS A meeting of the board of managers of the King Edward Technical CoLege was held yesterday afternoon. Present were;—Mr J. J. Marlow (chairman), Messrs J. T. Paul, F. L. Lawrence, L. Sanderson, H. H. Johnson, G J. Hayward, W. D. Sutherland, Dr Gardner, Mrs W. Herbert, and Miss L. Sullivan. Air Marlow was re-elected chairman of the board, and Mr Sanderson vicechairman. The chairman welcomed Mr Sutherland to the meeting. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT. The principal reported, inter alia, that the college re-opened for the third term on Monday, September 14. Miss Vonda P. Millar joined the staff, and Miss L. Vial returned after foui months’ absence, completely restored to health. Sick leave was at once necessary for Miss C. Anderson, Mr Sligo, and Miss Brickell. Friday, September 25, was annual hospital day. Boys and girls brought flowers, which were arranged in bunches and delivered by the pupils to the Public Hospital, the Children’s Convalescent Home, Batchelor Hospital, Talboys Home, Montecillo, and St. Helen’s Hospitals, as well as to 35 private homes. The board was represented at the conference of Technical School Boards, held in Wellington. The request was made that the board refer to an appropriate committee the question of minor changes in school costume. They are; In hat band and breast badge for girls; in gymnasium costume; and possibly in cap and shirt for boys. The board elections resulted in the following members being elected:— Local bodies, Mr C. Hayward; parents, Miss L. Sullivan; Education Board, Mr W. D. Sutherland; employees, Mrs A Herbert; school committees, Mr H. H. Johnson; employers, Mr F. L. Lawrence.
The Electing Committee of Employe! -j had asked the board to appoint at least one advisory committee from those trades in subjects allied to which the board holds evening classes. As one election, that ip place of the late Mr Walker, was still to be held, and as the chairman announced some months ago his intention of inviting each board member to name the committee upon which he or she would prefer to serve, no list of the personnel of committees was attached to the report. Under the circumstances the board would confirm present committees in office for a further month. RESIGNATIONS. The resignation of Mr J. Sheppard as a representative of tho Otago Education Board was accepted. Mr W. W. Batchelor tendered his resignation owing to calls on his time. The Principal reported that Air Sutherland had be-efi appointed in Air Sheppard’s place, and steps would be taken to fill the vacancies caused by tho death of Mr Walker and the resignation of Mr Batchelor within 30 days. GENERAL. Reference was made by the chairman to the death of Mr L. A. Walker, a member of the board. Though he was not a member for very long he had shown himself to be conscientious and painstaking in his work.—A vote ot sympathy with the was carried. the members standing in silence. A copy of a circular from the Education Department regarding grants for the conveyance and board of pupils attending day classes was received with thanks, the principal giving details of the grants to be made. _ Tho Education Department of Victoria forwarded a copy of a report on technical educational systems in other countries. —Received. A report on the engineering conference held in Auckland during the August vacation was submitted by Mr Hyiies, who said that the conference marked a milestone in the progress of engineering training. ~ Mr Sanderson was appointed the board’s representative on the Vocational Guidance Committee.
