ROSLYN-KAIKORAI RATEPAYERS
The monthly meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers Association was held last evening, Mr P. L. Ritchie The secretary (Mr A. D. Sutherland) read correspondence received from tne City Council, stating that the request for Highgate widening between bt. John’s Church and Oban street had been considered by the Works Committee and that its decision was that this work for the present was not opportune. As to Ayr street request for reconditioning of footpaths, this not being a public street, the council was under no obligation to spend public money upon lt- The Kaikorai Valley' widening job was reported as progressing favourably, although certain levels and a retaining wall have to be erected before the whole •work can be pushed forward without Scarba street, City road kerbing, and Highgate sealing; These requests are having urgent consideration. The latter job has now been passed by the council with a vote of £1,500. Residents in Claremont and Maheno streets, also in Highgate, wrote appreciating the association’s efforts for, improvements in their localities. The secretary submitted the following schedule of works secured and completed by the City Council during the past year:—The kerbing and channelling of Wright and Chapman streets; the tar sealing of Littlebourne road, Tweed, and Fifield streets to Highgate; the reconditioning of the north end of Nairn and Hansford street, Lynn street at the golf links, and Marsdale street; the formation of a new footpath at Taieri road from Helensburgh road to Rudd road, the widening and levelling of Scarba street; the raising of footpaths in Upper Highgate on both sides; the erection of new steps in Sheen and Maheno streets; the formation of a new footpath at the Catholic church in Taieri road; the erection of a new postal box in Leven street; the placing of additional lights in Melrose street; the cutting back to street line of many hedges; and the erection of a new footbridge over the stream in the Upper Fraser’s bush reserve. The following works have still to be carried out: —The widening of Highgate from St. John’s Church to Oban street, and from Columba College to Dunblane street on both sides; the widening of Charlotte street at the junction of City road; the kerbing and channelling of City road on the north side, and Upper Shetland street.
