STRAND
James Dunn and Sally Ellers, who won fame as a “team” in ‘Bad Girl,’ are seen at the Strand this week in ‘ Don’t Get Personal.’ ‘ Bad Girl,’ which won the Motion Picture Academy award, gave the two stars a magnificent opportunity, 'and ‘ Don’t Get Personal ’ is equally well suited to the blend of comedy, romance, and pathos that the young players do so well. The story begins with a laughable situation that gets more uproarious as it goes along. James Dunn and Pinky Tomlin offer themselves at auction to the highest bidder. They are about to be claimed by a spinster with a determined gleam in her eye when they are saved by Sally Eilers. Romance takes the three of them in charge. Joseph Schmidt, the “ pocket tenor.” who makes his screen debut in ‘ My Song Goes Round the World,’ in support, is small in body, but his voice is powerful and full of resonant beauty. It is already familiar to most people through the medium of the radio, but it is more effective in the film, where he uses it in a variety of numbers, all of which show his outstanding artistry.
