ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
SEVERE BURNS—TURPENTINE EXPLOSION. E. Lowans, a married man with two children, was mixing terebine at the Nelson Paint Company’s works yesterday afternoon when the turpentine exploded, setting fire to his clothes, which the workmen extinguished with a chemical extinguisher. Barrels of turpentine burst, but the brigade confined the fire to a small corner in the works. Lowans was admitted to hospital suffering from severe burns on the arms and body. PINNED UNDER LORRY. A native of Finland, George Kuula, aged 42, single, was killed when his lorry rolled over twice after leaving the road. The accident occurred on a clay access road to the house where the deceased was living at Mahiihi, near Otorohanga. The lorry l pinned Kuula’s legs, and his head was doubled under him, preventing him from breathing.
