SCOTTISH DAY
COMMUNITY SINGING Friday’s sing is to be a real Scotch one, and is to be held as usual in the Strand Theatre (by courtesy of FullerHay ward). One of the big attractions will be the appearance of Mollie Doyle, of Bluff, who is only 13 years, and is the youngest girl piper in Australia or New Zealand. Mr Arthur MTJonald, who is always a great favourite, will assist with Scottish songs. Both these artists will ap-
pear in kilts. Cr W. H. Shepherd, in speaking at the sing last week, said that he was sure that thousands of listeners-in have enjoyed the efforts of the leaders, and he hoped that they would make the Scottish Day one to be remembered. He said that for every pound note sent in he would make it 21s. Donations can be sent to Begg’s or the Strand Theatre. The season so far has been one of the best. The committee appreciates the donations and also the Jetters of congratulations upon the good singing, “ Demmy,” “Alfie,” and “ Hemmy ” are appearing as Scotchmen, as is “ Harry.” Mrs MHntyre, who has charge of the stall, is always pleased to receive flowers. Proceeds are for the mayor’s relief of distress fund.
