AUCKLAND-WELLINGTON SERVICE

PROPHECY OF 91-HOUR RUN THE NEW RAILCARS [Per United Press Association.} AUCKLAND, September 28. The prophecy of a railcar service between Auckland and Wellington of nine hours and a-half was made by Mr G. H. Mackley, general manager of railways, this morning, discussing the projected daylight railcar tourist service. Standard railcars, which could reach a speed of 70 miles an hour with absolute comfort and safety, were to be finished at the Hutt workshops in nine mouths’ time, and would be utilised on the New Zealand railways, with the exception of the Wairarapa line. The workshops were now completing the last of seven special cars for the Wairarapa line. Four of the latter cars had already proved entirely satisfactory to the department and the travelling public.
