A Press Association message from Wanganui states that Dr D. Miller, assistant director at the Cawthron Institute, visited Wanganui last week, and inspected the colonies of Chilean sawfly which he liberated in this district last winter to combat bidibidi. He stated that he was well satisfied with the progress of the colonies, which were thriving well. Dr Galway’s invariably skilful programme blending provided lovers of organ music with an ideal Sunday evening treat last nigh, when there was a good attendance at the Town Hall. The chief organ solos were Chopin’s ‘ r uneral March ’ (a request item), Elgar’s brilliant ‘ Carillon, Bach’s choral prelude ‘ We All Believe in One God,’ and Tschaikowsky s splendid * Coronation March.’ The City Organist also collaborated with Miss Nellie Pickett (pianist) in the last movement of WebeFs ‘ Concertstuck,’ the combination being so brilliantly successful that the item had to he repeated. It was one of the best of Dr Galway’s recitals. A rubbish fire in the Town Belt near the corner of City road and Scarba street attracted the attention of the City Fire Brigade at 6.50 p.m. on Saturday. At 4.19 yesterday morning the brigade answered a justifiable false alarm to the corner of Manse and Stafford streets.

It was reported in our Friday issue that Mr C. Wilson had brought a shag to the Otago Anglers’ Association. The actual owner of tho bird, and the gentleman responsible for the demonstration, was Mr Jt. 0. Williams.
