AMATEUR CYCLING.
TO TUB SDITOK. Sir, —The amateur cycling handicaps in to-night’s ‘ Star,’ made very interesting reading, at least some of them. Woodford, who has never won a race this season, his nearest being a third, is on 3mjn, A. Shand 4min, M. Connell smin. Going by previous performances, M. Connell should be giving Woodford and Shand Imin. Mr Tate’s judgment is at fault, as Shand, who is only 14 years of age, is a lone_ rider, preferring to ride unpaced, and is level on points with M. Connell for the cup, for which the race to-morrow should be the deciding factor. Evidently' the club does not wish to encourage young riders of this lad’s calibre, though it showed the need of them last week at the championship meeting.—l am, etc.. Lone Rider. September 25.
