MAYFAIR
One of the most moving of Eugene O’Neill’s works is ‘ Ah, Wilderness,’ tho screen version of which is at present bei ; shown at the Mayfair. The story is simpler in setting than many of the author’s works, and, partly for this reason and partly because of the lack of strain in the characters, it has a broader appeal than most of his plays. The original has boon as closely followed as the difference in medium permits, and the chief roles have offered excellent material to Wallace Beery and Lionel Barrymore, of which they have not been slow to take advantage. Apart from these players, the cast includes some competent character actors, including Aline MLMahon. A young actor whose work is full of promise is Eric Linden, in the romantic lead. He gives an almost flawless study of adolescence. Mickey Rooney and Ronita Granville have juvenile roles which they reader very naturally. The second film is ‘ The Nitwits,’ featuring Wheeler and Woolsoy.
