[Per United Press Association.] A • .. \ AUCKLAND, September 26.Word has been received that th< small scow Tamahae, inward bound from Mangawai to Auckland, foundered in Hauraki Gulf off Brown’s Bay, shortly after midnight. . r> tr The crew of three —Captain At. xij Jones, Engineer-mate P. Griffey, and Deck Hand H. Collins—took to the dinghy and rowed to Brown s x»ayj about two miles away. The captain said the weather was fine and the vessel was under power* with a staysail set. The engineer, found water making rapidly in the engine room, and there was just tune to get the dinghy out before the vessel foundered. % , , The Tamahae, 20 tons gross, hasbwsa! engaged in the coastal shingle trade* and was formerly in the coal trade between Moekau and Waitara. _ The captain said the foundering was inexplicable, as the vessel had nos shown any signs of a leak. The scow, which was formerly tn* Glenae, was owned by Captain Jones and valued at £1,500. The owner states that only a small portion of th|i is covered by insurance.
