. NATIONAL WORKERS' MOVEMENT The general .meeting of the Dunedin Central branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday _ evening. Mr R. Waterson (vice-president! presided over a good attendance or members and their wives. Correspondence was read and dealt with. . . - The organising report by the secretary, which was well received, showed an increase of 43 members and eight transferred to full-time work. The report of the deputation from the National Executive to the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong) on behalf of the men on sustenance for an increase was read, and it was agreed that the following resolution be sent on to the Minister: —“ That this branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement supports the request, of the National Executive and the Auckland and Wellington unemployed for an increase of 4s per week for single men on sustenance and 5s per week for married men.” . ' A few complaints were left in to* secretary’s hands to endeavour to have them rectified. . . , After some discussion on the legislation passed by the Government, th« following resolution was carried, to bi forwarded to the Prime Minister (R/t, Hon. M. J. Savage)“ That we are of the opinion that the Government should carry on with this session of Parliament until the legislation dealing with the unemployed and the working class in general is placed on the Statute B The” executive of the N.U.W.M. agreed to combine with the South Dunedin Unemployed Association and th* Otago Labour Representation Committee to meet the local members of Parliament in an effort to get the "unemployed on a 40-hour basis. Mr Tl. Silverstone, of the Otago University, delivered a short address on the new constitution of the U.S.S.R., and was accorded a hearty vote o| thanks.
