PROTESTANT ALLIANCE

The fortnightly meeting of Valley True Lodge was held on Tuesday, W.M. Bro. Campbell presiding over a good attendance of officers and members. Two visitors were welcomed —W.M. Bro. Cosgrove, of Triumph Lodge, and P.G.M. Bro. Christie, of Loyal Excelsior. Two candidates were_ initiated. Correspondence held over till quarter night included‘a letter, from the U.F.S. Council in re medical fees, and a committee consisting of Bros. Hay and Austin was appointed to deal with the matter. The juvenile superintendents reported that prospective members had been interviewed, and there was every indication that the juvenile lodge would progress 1 in the future. It was decided to ‘accept Star of Southland’s invitation to visit that lodge during Labour Day week-end, several wishing to make the trip. _ A vote of thanks was accorded the visitors, W.M. Bro. Cosgrove suitably responding. At the conclusion of lodge business a social hour was spent in cards and dancing. Pride of Valley Ladies’ Lodge held the quarterly meeting on Tuseday, W. Mist. Sister Yeoman presiding over a large attendance. Two candidates were initiated. Several members of the Grand Executive, consisting of D.G.M. Bro. Hellyer, P.G.M. Bro. Harvey, and G. Chap. Bro. Christie paid an official visit to the meeting, also Sisters Mathewson, of Triumph, and Christie of Loyal Excelsior. Sister Yeoman was appointed secretary, vice Sister Robertson, and it was decided to grant Sister Yeoman honours as past mistress. A number of members signified their intention of joining the combined visit to Invercargill on Labour Day week-end. Arrangements are now well in hand for what should be a memorable trip. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors, who responded, expressing themselves pleased _ with the progress the lodge was making. True Blue Juvenile Lodge held a meeting on Tuesday, there being a good attendance of members under Superintendents Campbell and Frame. Several candidates were proposed for membership. After business had been concluded a good programme of games was gone through under the direction of the superintendents. Hope of Valley Juvenile Girls’ Lodge held the regular meeting on Tuesday, an excellent attendance of members be“}S present. Superintendent Sister Mathewson and the Triumph juveniles visited the lodge, and a pleasant hour was spent in community singing in preparation for a visit to bo made to Ross Home shortly. Triumph Juvenile Lodge No. 1 held its quarterly meeting on Thursday of last week. Sister Mathewson, the superintendent, expressed. her pleasure in meeting such a large gathering, the. usual opening ceremonies were carried out by the W. Mistress and the officers of the lodge. Two candidates were initiated, and the ceremony was faithfully conducted by the W.M. and her During the evening songs and recitations were given by the members. It was decided to pay a visit to the Ross Home at an early date. A very pleasant evening was enjoyed by all. Triumph Lodge, No. 9, held its quarterly meeting on Thursday of last week. There was a large attendance of members, and a full roll of officers to greet the W.M. (Bro. John Cosgrove), who was ably assisted in the opening ceremonies by the chaplain (Sister Mathewson) and P.M. Bro. J. Weir. There was also a good attendance of visitors, who included the deputy G.M. (Bro. G. H. Hellyer) and his executive officers (P.M- Bro. Christie, of No. 41 Excelsior Lodge, and Bro. F. Zimmerman, P.M:, No. 11 Valley True Blue). There Was a considerable amount of correspondence dealt with of ' interest to the members. It was decided to agree with the request of the " Otago F.S, Council that the lodge increase the doctors’ fees. The sick claims on the funds of the lodge were passed for payment, and the Sick Committee report was received. P.M. Bro. A. Devlin resigned his office as trustee, and was accorded a vote of thanks for his faithful service to the lodge during his term of office. An election to fill the vacancy was held, and P.M. Bro. W. O’Neill was elected as trustee. Regarding a visit to the Star of Southland, Invercargill, it was decided to make the trip on Saturday (Labour week), and a committee was appointed to make all arrangements. D.M. Bro. L. Pepperell was elected chairman. A vote of thanks to the visitors was carried by acclamation, and responded to by D.G.M. Bro. Hellyer, P.G.M. Bro. J. Harvey, G.S. Bro. A. Hay, P.M. Bro. F. Zimmerman. No. 11, and P.G.M. Bro- Christie, No. 41.
