TECHNICAL COLLEGE CONCERT

FINAL PERFORMANCE The second concert given in Burt Hall last evening .showed the extent to which the pupils of the King Edward Technical College have benefited from the musical instruction of Mr T. Vernon Griffiths. The usual hjgh standard was maintained throughout the entertainment, which consisted of items by the school choir, dramatic society, and combined orchestra and military band of the school. The programme opened with the overture ‘ Assembly Hour ’ and the march ‘ Baseball Nine ’ by the orchestra. These items were delightfully rendered, and the later overtures, ‘ Copycat/ ‘ Vacation Days,’ and ‘ Masterbilt ’ surpassed even the opening numbers. The school choir in all its numbers gave evidence of careful study, good tone and balance being the features of the singing. The playette, ‘ Nix Nought Nothing,’ by Naomi Mitchison, occupied the second half of the programme. It was well staged, and the players all performed creditably. “ The Wizard ” (Stuart Smart) played a very fine part, the role suiting him admirably. “ The Wizard’s Daughter” (Kathleen Burns) had a fairly heavy task, and her dialogue was exceedingly good. The other players—Gordon Lamond (the King), Joyce Taylor (the Queen), Victor Robinson (the Prince), Jack Welsh (Commander-in-Chief), Owen Autridge (Head Cook), and Pat Davis (Foreign Princess) —all gave meritorious performances. The concert was a distinct success, and all those connected with it are to be congratulated.
