IMPORTANT CONFERENCE
EMPIRE CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE INTEREST FOCUSSED ON DOMINION [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 26. “ If success is achieved and unanimity arrived at on subjects exercising the minds of people to-day, such as immigration and shipping, this will be a conference that should never be forgotten,” said Sir Thomas Wilford, speaking of the coming triennial congress of the chambers of commerce of the British Empire, to be held at Wellington next week. “ You may think the results may be somewhat futile/’ Sir Thomas added, “ but Great Britain is looking on with the greatest interest. New Zealand will be placed, as Ottawa was, on the map for those who write the history of the British Empire in times to come. Every delegate is going to do his best to show the world unanimity upon important matters of interest to us all, so that the world at large can realise that we look upon the Empire not merely as a commonwealth of nations, but as a sacred trust committed to our _ care, with the hope that we may arrive at some understanding that may be a direction and a lead to the whole world.” ,
