ADVANCING ON TOLEDO LOYALISTS OPEN RIVER RARRAGES TAGUS VALIEV INUNDATED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MADRID, September 24. (Received September 25, at 11 a.m.) For the purpose of impeding the insurgents’ advance on Toledo, the Government forces opened the barrages of the Alberche River, inundating 10,000,000 square yards of the Tagus Valley. MISSING REFUGEES MYSTIFICATION AT GENEVA. LONDON, September 24. (Received September 25, at 10.30 a.m.) Some mystification has been created by a request from Spain to the International Red Cross at Geneva to ascertain the fate of the steamer Genoveva which sailed from Santander for Valencia on September 2 with 400 refugees, who are since missing. An insurgent wireless message from Burgos laconically claims that their warships captured the Genoveva and sank the escorting submarine, but does not reveal what happened to the refugees, except that they were made to sing the insurgent hymn instead of the ‘ Internationale.’ REBEL AIRMEN RESCUED BY SHIP GIBRALTAR, September 24. (Received September 25, at 11 a.m.) A French steamer landed two Spanish insurgent air pilots, who were rescued south-west of Cadiz, after clinging for two days to the wing of their stormbattered seaplane, which was forced down. The wireless operator and the mechanic, both non-swimmers, improvised a canvas boat, but were apparently drowned.
