'OUTWARD BOUND'

LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY'S PERFORMAKCE The Little Theatre Society staged another successful performance of ‘ Outward Bound ’ before a fairly large audience last night. Sutton Vane’s dramatic and absorbing play deals with the question of life after death in a skilful manner, and although such a play provides a fairly severe test for amateurs, the interpretation given by members of the cast was highly creditable. Mr H. H. Westwood gave a very successful characterisation of Scrubby, the steward, who alone was aware at the outset that the passengers; on the ship, like himself, had all crossed the borderline that divides the here from the hereafter, though they preserved their earthly idiosyncrasies in word and action. Mr Gordon" Whitta gave an effective portrayal of the young fellow who has set out to drink himself to death, and Mr E. Fish impersonated with success the clergyman off duty. As Mr _ Lingley, the passenger who prides himself on his business and his possession of money, Mr George Marks gave a good portrayal. _ Clever work was offered by Mrs Elsie Stephens as Mrs Cliveden-Banks, and Mr C. Clementson and Miss Alice Clarke, as Ann and Henry, two “ half-ways.” who are neither mortal nor completely separated from earthly things, made a wistful pair of lovers. Miss Isobel Clarke, as Mrs Midget, tfyo charwoman, contributed a good performance, and Mr B. Sullivan gave a skilful characterisation as the Examiner. ‘ Outward Bound,’ of which the producer is Mr Ernest Griffen and the stage manager Mr A. H. Lawrenson. will be presented again to-night and to-morrpw night.
