BOY SCOUTS

HOBBIES AND HANDICRAFT EXHIBITION This evening and to-morrow afternoon and evening an opportunity will be given the people of Dunedin to inspect the productions of the creative and constructive ability of local Scouts and Wolf Cubs at the Boy Scouts Association’s annual exhibition •of hobbies and handicrafts. Dominion headquarters, Christchurch, will be represented by Colonel Fenwick (Dominion chief commissioner), Air-marshal Sir Robert Clark-Hall (Dominion commissioner for Rovers), Colonel Cresswell (deputy chief commissioner). Major Eurby (Dominion secretary). Other commissioners, officers, and Scouts from Invercargill, Lawrence, Owaka, and Otmaru will be present. An advance inspection of the exhibits snows that the display by the Scout* is deserving of the greatest encouragement. Each of 25 classes which hay* been submitted to the judges demonstrates to the full the industry and assiduous attention of the boys to their hobbies. Considerable skill is evidenced in many sections, notably the model aeroplane, homecraft, basket work, and carpentry divisions. Remarkable inventive ability, with attention to detail and appearance, characterises the majority. Though crudeness is displayed in one or two cases, mostly among the junior competitors, the entire submissions are really commendable pieces of work, reflecting no little measure of credit upon the youthful craftsmen. An added attraction will be the displays by the Model Engineering Society, which has provided some exquisite miniature working models; the Dunedin Photographic Society, with some fine studies; and the Model Yacht and Aeroplane Clubs, with a wide selection of models. • , The exhibition will be officially opened by the mayor (Mr E. T. Cox) at 8 o’clock this evening. Camp fire items will be presented during the evening by the North District Scouts and Rovers and the Sea Scouts.
