FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25. .(Before Mr H. \V. Bundle, S.M.)' drunkenness'. A statutory first offender for drunkenness, James Primate, was fined 12s 6d, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. CHIMNEY ON FIRE. Frederick George Ellis was fined 5s and costs for allowing a chimney to catch fire. WANDERING CATTLE. Garlies Buccleugh Geddes was fined courF costs for allowing cattle to wander in the Green Island Borough. UNLIGHTED BICYCLE. Joseph William Beaumont was fined 5s and costs for riding an unlighted bicycle. MOTORING OASES. Jack Milne admitted a charge of dangerous driving and was fined £2 10s and costs. Charles Eric Connolly (Mr 0. G. Stevens) was fined £6 and costs for exceeding a speed of 30 miles per hour. Arthur Blackie, whose pillion rider on the motor cycle he was driving along Cumberland street was injured when the machine was involved in a collision, was fingd £2 10s and costs for failing to give way to traffic on his right. He was convicted only for not possessing a license. Frank Longworth (Mr W. H. Carson) pleaded guilty to negligent driving in the Octagon in that he attempted to pass another car at a corner. He was fined 40s and costs. For driving unlighted motor cars William Anderson and William George Lane were each fined 5s and costs. NO WIRELESS LICENSES. “ In future the Telegraph Department intends to prosecute in every case,” said Sergeant Boulton, when a batch of owners of unlicensed wireless sets were charged. He added that the present proceedings were the result of laxity on the part of the owners. The maximum penalty was £SO. During the hearing of the cases Inspector O’Grady said that this laxity had the effect of piling up unnecessary costs against the department, the magistrate remarking that unless there was some improvement in the renewal of licenses ho would have to impose a more severe penalty. The case wore dealt with as follow; Benjamin Tait, fined 6s 3d and costs (10s); Vera Paterson, fined 3s; Bede Cry Ford, fined 5s and costs; Mary Breeze, Yilliam Matthew Brosnan, Robert Davidson, Arthur William Fort, William Grigg, Maggis Harrison, Isobella Hogg, Alex. Matheson, James Mawhinney, Richard John Moore, David Orange, Henry Leycester Pearce, Clyde Rennie, Augustus George Warner, and Louisa Mary Whelan were eacr convicted and fined court costs (10s) ; Henri Arthur llirt (Mr G. T. Bayleo), Alex. Campbell, Gordon Harvey Dale, j an Leo Charles Dalwoocl, Christina Peterson, and George Wilkinson were convicted only. UNEMPLOYMENT LEVIES UNPAID. David Lament, whose unemployment levies were outstanding to the extent of £5 ss, was fined £2 and costs on one charge, and convicted and fined 10s on another charge. For a similar offence Tim Y T ec, a Chinese, was lined 10s and costs on each of two charges.
