RAIN DEVELOPING SHORTLY: The following weather forecast - was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—> A shallow cyclone is moving eastwards past the northern extremity of the Dominion; while a westerly depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Pressure mas risen rapidly over Eastern Australia. Forecast: Moderate to strong northerly winds, rising in. places to'gale'force. Weather clouding over, with rain developing shortly-in. western and southern areas, and later becoming fairly general. Temperatures mild at first, but cooler to-morrow. Seas moderate, but rising about Foveaux Strait, FINE AND SUNNY. After mild temperatures yesterday afternoon and evening this morning broke fine with some sunshine, inhere was a light south-westerly breeze in evidence all morning, but the temperatures. until 12.30 p.m. were at a high level, the registrations being 62deg maximum and 48deg minimum. Yesterday for the same time the readings were 58deg and) 54deg, and for 24 hours were 61.2 and i 37.8 deg respectively. Last evening a frost of I.sdeg was formed, but there was no rain. Barometric pressure was falling at 29.7 in at noon, as compared with a steady barometer at 30in yesterday. With a clear sky and bright sunshine at 1.30 p.m. to-day the afternoon promised to be fine and warm.
