COLUMBA GIRLS’ COLLEGE

MONTHLY MEETING OF GOVERNORS The monthly meeting of the Columba College Board of /Governors was held on Tuesday, those present being Dr W. H, Borrie (president), Lady Sidey, Mesdames D. Reid and R. A. Ewing, Miss P. Whyte, Rev. A. 0. W. Standage, Dr J. Malcolm, Messrs J. Hogg and S. P. Cameron. The board extended congratulations to a member of the staff, Miss Marjorie Allan, who at present is studying at the Royal Academy of Music, London, on attaining her L.R.A.M. Miss Allan was also awarded two bronze medals. Miss Mavis Kerr, a present pupil of the college, received the board’s congratulations on her splendid performance at the New Zealand badminton championships held at New Plymouth recently. It was reported that the Ex-Braemar Girls’ Association wished to erect a bird bath in the college grounds as a remembrance of the Misses Miller, the lato principals of Braemar House. The board expressed appreciation of this gift. It was decided to hold the annual athletic sports on the school playing fields on October 9. It was also resolved to arrange the closing ceremony for December 16, the school to reopen February 3. deputation comprising Mesdames M'Kellar, Brewer, and Earnshaw, representing the Parents’ Association of Columba College, waited on the board with the view to co-operating with it in the proposed alterations to the school building, providing increased accommodation for the VI, form. The principal’s report was received, and it was interesting to note that matters in connection with the school were running smoothly. The matron’s report showed that the health of the boarders was excellent. Following a conference with a special committee of the John M'Glashan College Board of Governors, a report dealing with matters of joint interest and importance to the two colleges was recei\cd and discussed. It was considered that much good would arise from the close co-operation of the boards of both colleges.
