TWENTY-SEVEN CHARGES
THEFTS IN HAWKE'S BAY [Per United Press Association.] HASTINGS, September 23. Arising out of police investigations following the recent arrest of two men in connection with a burglary at Havelock North, Mr J. Miller, S.M., to-day heard 27 charges of breaking and entering and theft against Jack Irwin and George Reginald Harrison. Irwin was charged separately on 10 counts, and Harrison on six, and they were jointly charged on 11 coflnts. Six of the charges were indictable and involve thefts from various dwellings, farmhouses, and other places in and about Hastings and Napier, and the goods alleged to have been stolen aggregate nearly £375. The accused pleaded guilty to the summary charges. Irwin was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on each charge, the terms to he concurrent, and Harrison was also sentenced to three months on each charge, the terms to be cumulative on the first two. On the indictable offences both men pleaded guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence.
