[Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 23. The Legislative Council met at 3 p.m. Replying to the Hon. C. J. Carrington, tlie Leader of the Council, the Hon. M. Fagan, said that the indigenous forests and exotic forest plantations controlled by the State were sufficient to ensure an adequate supply of limber

for a century. It was not the policy of the Government to sell timber in protective forests which were necessary to prevent soil erosion. The State Forest Service was taking all steps to safeguard the present forests. The Government was also taking steps to perpetuate the kauri forests and to regulate the supply of kauri timber to the market. The Council adjourned at 3.15 p.m.
