MAINLY FAIR The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— An intense anti-cyclone is still located east of the Dominion, but a depression is now centred between Cape Maria Van Diemen and Norfolk Island, and is moving southwards. A fresh depression has reached South-eastern Australia. Forecast: Light to moderate northerly winds. Weather mainly fair, but cloudy at times, and foggy in coastal areas. Mild temperatures. Seas slight to moderate. FINE, BU.T DULL. Though rain fell at intervals during yesterday afternoon, it had ceased by the evening, and this morning broke fine, with a lightly overcast sky. A north-westerly wind contributed to the general coolness of the temperatures." The readings at 12.30 p.m. were 58deg maximum and 54deg minimum; the corresponding registrations yesterday were 49deg and 45deg. Over a period of 24 hours yesterday the readings were 56deg and 42.6 deg. There was an absence of rain and frost last night. Barometric pressure at noon to-day was steady at .30in, having fallen only .lia since the same time on Tuesday. Indications at 12.30 p.m. to-day were for' a fine afternoon, with cool temperatures prevalent.
