MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING
COWIE SHIELD MATCH The Otago Miniature Rifle 'Association fired the third round for the Cowie Shield last evening, 11 teams, representing six clubs, taking part in the final. The shooting was good. T. Quinn, of Railway No. 2 team, and R. Bruce, of Dunedin No. 1 team, registered possibles, with 14 of the other competitors only one point down. T. Quinn (of Railway) and G. Wyllie (of Arthur Barnett’s) tied for the highest individual score with 239 points out of the possible 240 points. In the first shoot-off both of these marksmen again tied, and in the second shoot G. Wyllie proved the winner. W. Graham (of Arthur Barnett’s) was only one point away with 238. In the teams, Railway No. 2 put on the fine score of 395 points out of the possible 400, an average of 79 per man. The competition was won by the Dunedin Railway No. 2 team, which shot well over the three series of matches for the shield, scoring 1,177 points out of the possible 1)200 points. They are to be congratulated on their win. Arthur Barnett’s No. 1 team was close up. with 1,174 points. Dunedin, D.S.A., and C.F.H. Clubs supervised the shoot for the final round, and are to be congratulated on the efficient manner in which the shoot was conducted for this coveted trophy.
