REGENT
Marlene Dietrich takes most of the honours in ‘ Desire,’ which is having a season at the Regent this week. It is the story of the adventures of the girl who must be the most lovely jewel thief ever known. It opens in 'gay Paris. Tom Bradley (Gary Cooper), an American engineer, decides to spend his vacation in Spain. Meanwhile, in another part of Paris Madeleine de Beaupre makes a clean getaway with a 2,1100,000 franc pearl necklace. She, too, sets out for Spain. Oil the journey some amusing ■ things happen when the engineer and the charming thief run into each other The result is that an engineer has a two million franc necklace unconsciously in his possession. The problem is' to get it back again and disposed of Emotional complications have set in, however, and some highly dramatic nfbments follow the clash of old loyalties and new in the heart of Madeleine. Marlene Dcitrich as Madedeino reaches one of the biggest successes of her career, adding a great sense of humour to her great beauty. Cooper is seen ns an engaging light comedian.
