MAYFAIR
A rollicking story of adventure is presented in ‘ Captain Blood, a Warner Brothers’ production, which commenced to-day at the Mayfair. With a background created by the thunder of cannon, the clash of rapier and cutlass, and the creak of ships’ yards straining under full sail, the story of Dr Peter Blood, whose destiny led him into slavery and thence to buccaneer triumphs and the Governorship of a West Indian island, is followed amid increasing excitement. The title role is played by Errol Flynn, an Australian actor, who gives a fine performance in his first American picture. He receives excellent support from a large and admirably-chosen cast, among whom Lionel Atwill, Ross Alexander, Guy, Kibbee, and Basil Rathbone have outstanding individual scenes. Olivia de Havilland makes a charming heroine, who can be imperious and tender without violating the spirit of the period.
