MISTY RAIN IN PLACES The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepiiki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay l An intense anti-cyclone _is centred east of New Zealand, while another anti-cyclone is moving on to southeastern Australia. A shallow depression lies between them over the North Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate southerly winds, later becoming variable. Weather cloudy to overcast, with misty, rain in places. Seas slight to moderate. INTERMITTENT RAIN. Accompanied by the dropping of the south-westerly wind of yesterday, steady rains _ commenced falling at 6.30 this morning, and by 9 o’clock .lin had been registered. Later in the morning, a tendency to scattered showers was evinced, and at 12.30 p.m. the fall had almost ceased. A very high barometrio pressure of 30.1 in was recorded at noon to-day, with a further rise indicated. Yesterday at the same time the reading was 29.8 in (steady). Temperatures to-day at 12.30 p.m. were low, 49deg being the maximum, and 4odeg the minimum, as compared with 53deg and 51deg, the corresponding readings yesterday. For a period of 24 hours bn Monday, the registrations were 53deg and 43deg. Indications for the afternoon were for scattered showers and cool temperatures.
