ROYAL MALE CHOIR

FORTHCOMING CONCERT Tho Royal Dunedin Male Choir’s programme to be given in the Town Hall on Monday evening next includes two brackets likely to attract the attention both by virtue of their music and their association. The first bracket is made up of three national songs—. the, Welsh favourite, ‘ All Thru’ the Night,’ in which the choir’s soft singing will be heard l ; the English ‘ Ho, Ro, My Nut Brown Maiden,’ a more robust song and with a taking lilt; and the evergreen Scotch number, ‘‘Loch Lomond.’ Iff, this number Mr J. Pringle will sing tho solo to a smooth melodic accompaniment by the choir. The second bracket consists of negro spirituals — 1 Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,’ a popular number in which the first basses have scope for quality and tone; and a new spiritual, ‘Sooner in tho Morning,’ with solo versos by Mr A. G. Fleming. This is a work showing light and shade, and is faithfully interpreted by the choir. The last of the bracket is 1 Deep River,’ with the tenor’ solo by Mr John Kennedy. To’ those ’already familiar with the spirituals this bracket• should bo pleasing, and to music lovers generally the scope the numbers give for musical interpretation should ensure real pleasure. The box plans will be opened at Begg’s on Friday.
