ANNUAL MEETING SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED The fifty-eighth annual meeting and birthday party of the Dunedin Y.AV.C.A. were held in the association’s social hall last night. There was a good attendance of members of the board of directors, the advisory board, and the various groups of the association. The president (Miss F. J. Ross) was in the chair. The evening opened with a _ short ceremony and service, in which a representative of Youth charged the various groups with certain responsibilities, after which those present _ repeated the purpose of the association. ANNUAL REPORT. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Miss Ross expressed her delight at seeing such a large gathering, which was inspiring to the younger members. She was grateful to all those who had given assistance during the year. The speaker always marvelled at the greatness of human nature _ and the kindness which existed, which made one feel that life was worth living. She then went on to refer to the activities of the _ association, all of which were flourishing. The motion was seconded by Mr J. Sutherland Ross, who extended his most hearty congratulations on the “ live ” spirit which prevailed at the meeting. Referring to the balance sheet, Mr Ross said that rising prices would increase the cost of _ running the association. That which cost nothing, however, was not as good as that which cost something in all walks of life. The Y.W.C.A. was not out to make money, and the speaker appealed to those members who could to make some attempt to ■ help the association along. Recently the association had lost through the death of Mr H. K. Wilkinson a very sincere and generous friend. ELECTION OF BOARD. The following members were rc-elected to the board of directors:—Mosdames H. Price, H. K. Wilkinson, Misses L. Sullivan, F. J. Ross, M. Begg, and Dr E. Gregory. Mrs Parata and Airs James Fairbairn were also elected to the board. THE BUDGET. The budget for the coming year was presented by Mrs C. Mackio Begg, who said that a deficit of £621 was anticipated. This amount would have to bo found from outside sources, and. she appealed to members to do their best to make the, street appeal an outstanding success. CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL. It was resolved that a special meeting be called to consider the matter of a women’s memorial in connection with the Dominion centennial of 1940. , CONVERSAZIONE. After the business of the meeting had been completed, the trophies won by the winter sports teams were presented and then the visitors were shown the various groups at work and the features of the hostel. Supper was then, served and the birthday cake cut.
