(Received September 22, at 2 p.m.) At the wool sales 10,046 bales were offered, including 3,887 from New Zealand. Altogether 7,814 bales were sold. There was an excellent selection, which sold actively to, the Home trade and the Continent at full current rates. Withdrawals were large among speculators’ lots and greasies owing to firm limits. New Zealand greasy crossbred, “ Arden,” top 15d, average 14)d. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand Ltd, has received the' following cable from its London office under date the 21st instant:—“The auctions are proceeding with great spirit and catalogues are being well cleared. Tbe Stock Exchange has received aavice from Mount Morgan Limited amending tbe cable issued yesterday. The message adds that although the heavy capital expenditure involved in the erection of an oxidised ore plant and other scheduled reorganisation has been provided for, the directors deem it prudent and in the interests ot the shareholders to refrain from giving consideration to the declaration of the usual interim dividend until the new plant is operating at capacity. Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs After an improved turnover vesterday afternoon, the Exchange opened quietly this morning, and at the first call only three sales were made. Fresh bidding was steady, but lacked animation. In the banking sections New
Zealands looked very quiet, with sellers at 395, the best buyers stopping at o»s 6d. Commercials were steady between 18s 2d and 18s sd. Insurances were dull. Buyers of South British dropped back to 88s 9d. Renown Collieries were quoted ex div., with a market between 12s and 13s for ordinary and from 7d to 2s lOd for preference; and Northern Steams were easier, with sellers at’ 5s 9d. Lines that were close to business were Auckland Gas quoted from 23s to -23 s Id. and New Zealand News : papers from 39s lid to 40s. Kaiapoi Woollens were quoted ex div., with sellers of ordinary at 15s 3d, contributing at 6s 3d, and preference at 18s. Ihere were no buyers in either case. Australian issues showed minor changes. Broken Hills were offered low-er at 75s 9d. Rights changed hands cheaper at 2s 4d. Sellers of Australian Glass dropped their limits to 935, and a hnver came in at 90s 6d. Electrolytic Zincs continued firm, with quotations for preference 44s 3d to 45s Od, and unsupported sellers of ordinary at 4os. Mount Lvells were also firm, with the market between 29s 6d and 29s 9d. In Government Stocks the only offering was 1957 Bonds at £IOO.
