ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

STRUCK BY MOTOR CAR. Struck by a motor car near the corner of Princes street and Manor Place last evening, Donald Short, a single man, aged 57 years, was admitted to the Hospital shortly after 5 o’clock suffering from severe injuries to the head, back, and right leg. The car, which was driven by a Mrs Milne, of Maori Hill, was travelling south along Princes street, and is alleged to have swerved suddenly as it reached the Manor Place intersection. Mounting the footpath, on the south side the car struck Short, throwing him heavily against the wall of Scott’s produce store. First aid was _ given, and the injured man, who resides at 2 Filluel street, was removed to hospital. where his name was placed on, the dangerously ill list. His condition at midday to-day had improved a little, though his name was still on the list. FALL ON STREET. An injured head, caused by a fall in George street, was suffered by Gustave Johnson, aged 41 years, who resides at 138 London street. He was admitted to the Hospital at 9.30 p.m. yesterday. SCHOOLBOY INJURED. When playing in the Green Island School grounds yesterday afternoon Donald Thom, aged 10 years, who resides at Brighton road, fell, fracturing his right leg. He was admitted to the Hospital at 5 p.m. RUNAWAY HORSE. Becoming alarmed at passing motor traffic in Anderson’s Bay road yesterday, a horse harnessed to a sulky took fright and ran away, throwing the driver, Harry Hilij aged 21 years, who resides at 93 Union street, from his seat. The injured man was admitted to the Hospital at 1.10 p.m, yesterday suffering from head injuries. CHILD FALLS UNDER ROLLER. An Association message from Ashburton states that James Gow, aged five years, was killed at Chertsey thi* morning, when he fell under a roller on the farm of Mr H. R. Wilkinson. Tha boy was with a teamster, and waa sitting on the implement, when he overbalanced. His father is an employee on the farm.
