LOST FROM LINER

MYSTERY ON QUEEN MARY As the Queen Mary docked at New York recently police officers went on board to investigate the disappearance of a woman passenger, Miss Jane Carey, aged 22, an American, who had been studying in London. “ Miss Carey,” explained an official, “ shared a cabin with a Miss Stewart, a London girl, and it was she who reported her disappearance to the purser. „,She said they both began to dress about 7.30 a.m. “Miss Stewart left the cabin to find a stewardess, and when she returned five minutes later Miss Carey was missing. The Queen Mary was passing through a thick fog belt at the time, and officers searched the ship throughout the day.” Miss Carey’s girlhood sweetheart, Mr William Pritchard, also a student and a companion on the voyage, was unable to offer any explanation of the mystery. “ The night before she disappeared,” he said, “ we danced together and had a grand time. She seemed in good health and spirits. “ We went to Europe together to study, and our families have been friends for years.” According to the Cunard-White Star Company, Miss Carey is “ presumed to have been lost at sea.”'
