OCTAGON
Clark Gable ami Constance Bennett, make a delightful pair in ‘ After Office .Hours,’ which heads the current bili at the Octagon, it is essentially a romantic drama, but such a wonderful strain of sophisticated humour lias been introduced that it can be classed as one of the best comedies of the year. Tho accomplished principals give the polished performances that may be expected from them, and are at their best in the many comedy scenes, although they handle the more dramatic moments with practised restraint. Set against the interesting background of a great New York newspaper, tho story concerns the efforts of an energetic news editor (Clark Gable) to solve the mystery of a murder. Actually, the main interest of the story is not the mystery, since the audience knows the secret from the beginning, but this plot serves as a vehicle for tho excellent romance. Tho action, always fast, receives added momentum from the performances of Stuart J'lnvin and Billie Burke in minor roles. For the first time Dnii Merkel is cast in a romantic role in Metro-GoJdwyn-Mayer’s ‘ One New York Night,’ which is the supporting feature. Usually seen opposite such comedians ns Charles Bnttenvorth, Stuart Krwin, Ted Healy. and others, Miss Merkel is co-featnred ■with Franchot Tone, romantic juvenile, in this mystery-comedy laid in a large cosmopolitan hotel. Jack Conway directed 1 One New York Night,’ and the supporting cast includes such players as Conrad Nagel, Harvey Stephens, Steffi Duna, Charles Starrctl, ami Louise Henry. .
