LEAKING CARBURETTORS

Petrol drips from the carburettor are th'e result of a number of possible conditions. First, investigate the float mechanism, the float itself, and the needle and seating. Sediment finds its way to the needle seating and may be dislodged by draining and flushing the float 'chamber. Perhaps tapping the carburettor or turning the needle once or twice will help. New washers become necessary, and floats develop small leaks or become petrol-logged. Old carburettors will require a new needle and seating, or grinding in with fine abrasive. Excessive wear of balance mechanism, or a bent needle will be remedied by fitting new parts or careful repairs. A number of cases of flooding have resulted from incorrect float settings, loose jets, small _ and obscure casting cracks, and excessive fuel pump pressure.
