ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY

FORTHCOMING CONCERT For the third concert of its fortyninth season, tho Dunedin Orchestral Society, under the baton of Mr C. Roy Spackman, will present an interesting programme in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Wednesday next. Miss Winifred Gardner will play the Mendelsshon G minor piano concerto with the orchestra. This is an attractive composition, giving full scope to both soloist and orchestra. A new overture, 1 Tally Ho,’ by Ansell (the gift of Mr H, Adam), null be played. This has a very stirring appeal, as it is fully and cleverly orchestrated and introduces several well-known hunting songs. Another of Mr Adam’s gifts, ‘Three Irish Scenes,’ will also be played. These are by a new composer, Oscar Naylor. The first is called ‘ The Sligo Maid’s Lament,’ the second ‘ Along the Ennis Road,’ and the third 1 Jig, After Limerick Races.’ Other orchestral items include the ‘ lolanthe ’ selection, ‘ Prelude and Mazurka ’ from tho ‘ Collelia ’ Ballet (Delibes), * Hungarian March ’ (do Reeder), and ‘ Sarahande ’ (Bolnn). Mrs W. Hall Masters (nee Miss Noni Davidson) will bo the soloist, and will sing ‘Over Hill, Over Dale’ (Cook), and the bracket numbers ‘The Bird of the Wilderness ’ (Mallinson) and ‘ The Princess’ (Grieg).
