SUNDAY SERVICES
At First Church the Rev. W. Allen Stevely will conduct both services. The morning service will be the Jura thanksgiving service, when the subject will be ‘ The Things That Remain.’ and in the evening the subject for the Auckland thanksgiving service will be ‘ Think and Thank.’ At the evening service the quartet, ‘Look Upon Us, Blessed Lord ’ (Bach), will be sung, and the anthem will be ‘ With a Voice of Singing ’ (Shaw). At the close, of the evening service;there- 1 will be a con-' gregatibnal hymn practice. Dr-Galway will be at the organ. The Rev. D. C. Hen-on, M.A., will conduct both services in Knox Church. In the evening his subject will be ‘ The Thirst For Life.*
The preacher at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church will be the Rev. Thomas Miller, whose morning subject will be ‘ One Christian Toward Another,’ and his subject in the evening will be ‘ How God Forgives.’ ‘ A Reliability Trial ’ will be the subject of the Rev. C. H. Olds at Trinity Methodist Church in the evening. Mr Evan Tuckwell will be the soloist. The choir will render the anthem ‘ The Lord is My Light.’ In the morning the Bev. D. O. Williams, of Mornlngton, will occupy the pulpit. There will be a parade of Guides, Brownies, "and Boys’ Brigade at the morning service of the Methodist Central Mission, and in the evening the Rev. Leslie B. Neale will conduct the service, when he will speak on ‘ The TJnbridged Chasms.’ Mr E. Ottrey will be the soloist The Rev. J. K. Reid will conduct the morning service at the Dundas Street Methodist Church, and the Rev. T. R. B. Wocllo.;r,U the evening service. He will take for his subject ‘ The Art of Sympathy.’ There will be a duet by Mesdames Hedgerwood and Strode, and the choir will pre sen-t the anthem * They Have Taken Away *My Lord.’ At the Methodist Church, St. Kilda, the preacher at both services will be the Rev. T Skuse, ■ who will take as his subject ‘ Seeking Eternal Life ’ in the morning and 4 Living Water ’ in the evening. The Rev. J. Ewen Simpson will conduct the services at the Hanover Street Baptist ChuVoh, speaking in the morning on ‘ Christian Giving,’ and in the evening on ‘ The Meaning of Baptism.’ In the evening the anthem will be 4 Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring ’ (Bach) v and Miss Angela Hendry will sing ‘ 0 Divine Redeemer.’ At the North-east Valley Baptist Church the Sunday school anniversary services will take place. The preacher in the morning will be the Rev. J. Woolloxall; at 2.45 p.m. there will be a demonstration by the primary department; the Rev. H. Hogg will give the address. The evening service will be conducted by the Rev. J. K. Reid. At all services special anniversary hymns will be sung by the children’s choir. On Tuesday evening the anniversary concert will be held. Items by the various departments, admission free, but a collection will be taken for the school funds. Distribution of prizes. The Caversham Baptist Church will celebrate its sixty-third anniversary on Sunday. At 11 a.m. the preacher is the Rev. T. Keith Ewen. At 6.30 p.m. the pastor, the Rev. R. L. Fursdon, will speak on the subject, 4 What Is Conversion?’ Special music -will be rendered by the choir. Mr W. S. Hilliker is the soloist.
The Rev. Prof. S. F. Hunter, D.D., will conduct both services of divine worship at Moray Place Congregational Church, the morning subject being ‘ The Divine Tear Bottle.’ The evening subject will be ‘ Building on the Rock,’ and the choir will sing the anthem, ‘How Lovely Are the Messengers ’ (Mendelssohn). Services at the United Congregational Church. Albany street, will be conducted by Dr John M. Laird. This will be the last opportunity of hearing Dr Laird. The topic in the morning will be ‘ The Prodigal’s Brother,’ and the evening subject will bo ‘ The Insistent Choice.’ The services at the Salvation Army will take the form of welcome services to Lieu-tenant-colonel and Mrs Grattan, from London. The colonel has just been appointed by General Evangeline Booth as chief secretary for the Army in New Zealand. Commissioner and Mrs Adams will, conduct the services, which will be held at North-east Valley S.A. Hall at 11 a.m., South Dunedin S.A. Hull at 3 p.m., and the Dowling Street Citadel at 7 p.m. Monday night, at 7.45, the colonel and Mrs Grattan will be accorded a public welcome. Commissioner Adams presides. All are welcome. At the Theosophical Society there will be a reading by Mrs E. Macdonald from the writings of Sidney Cook, entitled ‘ Theosophy Simplified.’ Discussion and questions to follow. _ . . At the Greater World Christian Spiritual Mission the Rev. Gerlrnde Brooks will take as her subject ‘ God’s Plan.’ Spiritual clairvoyance and an after circle will follow.
