THOSE TIRED FEET

Of all periods of the year, there are few that make us as tired as does the springtime. Walking Tor any , length of, time • has the • effect of making rho feet terribly tired and sore, and tired feet seem to sap the energy from every part of the body. If you are among the sufferers, try these suggestions for foot-comfort: Special medicated bath salts may be obtained at the chemist’s, and to soak the feet for 20 minutes in hot water with a tablcspoonful of this added will give wonderful relief, and produce a velvety feeling. Plain Epsom salts may he dissolved in warm water instead, and these are a help in removing gouty or rheumatic tendencies in the feet.

Massage is important.. After the /soaking rub some plain cold cream thickly over the instep and ankles and massage it well'in,' twisting the toes about as you rub, and giving plenty of attention to the foot arches and the ■ankles.'

Before putting on the stockings give the feet a quick rub over with eau de Cologne—or methylated spirit, which is just as good, though less pleasant—then dust well with talcum powder. Your reward after a long day will he cool, fresh feet for the evening’s dancing or other , entertainment.

Exercise, of course, is invaluable, and should be performed regularly. A spoonful of alum dissolved in a footbath has a toning effect if used before the exercise is begun. Another treatment which will be found valuable ,in keeping the nails healthy and the quicks elastic is a friction- 1 with a small rubber brush and hot olive oil all'round the beds of the toenails.

Finally, here is a lotion which should be made up by the chemist, and which will: be found wonderfully comforting to sensitive feet after much walking: Thymol, 1 grain; essence of thyme, 4 grains; essence.of lavender, 5 grains; white tallow, 1,000 grains.
