FOR SEA AND SUN BATHING

Seaside holidays call for more than a bathing suit and a wrap to cover it when you are just lazing around. The up-to-date sun-worshipper needs quite a variety of beach dresses and play suits if she is to get the greatest amount of fun out of her holiday. Some of the nicest sun suits are, actually, the simplest, and quite easily copied. You may have to buy the lower part of the garment ready-made, if dressmaking is not your strong point, but anybody, however inexpert she may be, can make an attractive top. A Handkerchief Top. This was composed of a large square, or handkerchief, and you could, of course, choose any handkerchief with a striking or amusing design. the square was cut in two, diagonally, from corner to corner. Due of the resultant triangles was taken for the top and was tied around the waist at the back by the two corners. The third corner, which actually reached the base of the neck, was turned down, to make a little Hap, and on either side of the Hap shoulder straps, mace from the second triangle, were sewn. These straps were tied at the back of the neck, in a knot. Another type of top is also backless, but has tailored collar and lapels, the back of the collar holding the bibJike front of the bodice in piace. These tops look well in washing siik or linen worn with pleated or hared sliorts m a contrasting colour. There are, however, two-piece sun suits which consist of linen or gingham shorts and top to match. They are particu.ariy smart wnen the top consists of a brassiere, with straps and nothing else at the back. One suit of this typo is made of plaid linen—red and Dine lines on a grey linen ground. The shorts are pleated over the knees, and at the back also, and have scarlet lacings over the hips, on either side of tne front The well-cut brassiere top also has a tiny lacing to match down the centre front. DRESSES HAVE BIBS. Beach dresses may be very scanty, having a bib top in front, tied at the back of the neck. Striped gingham and linen are much used for them, and washing silk and various rather thick rayon fabrics are also seen. Some of the dresses, however, open down the front to show a pair of matching shorts and top. Skirts, too, cut on these lines are seen again this season. They button down the front and may be discarded, revealing the shorts beneath when necessary.
