BOY SCOUTS' ASSOCIATION

The Boy Scouts are holding their fourth annual hobbies and _ handicraft exhibition this year at the Pioneer Hall on Friday and Saturday next. The exhibition will be opened on Friday by His Worship the Mayor at 8 p.m., the chair being taken by Sir Percy Sargood (president of the association). Dominion headquarters is_ to bo represented by Colonel Fenwick (Dominion Chief Commissioner), Colonel Creswell (Deputy-chief Commissioner), Sir Robert Clark-Hall (Commissioner for Rovers), Major Furby (Dominion secretary), and other commissioners. The exhibition is one_ of importance in Scouting, as it gives the public tho opportunity of seeing what the boys can do as a result of the training and encouragement they receive from their officers. The work to be submitted this year is of a high standard, and the number of individual items to bo exhibited is approximately 1,000, representing work done by Cubs and Scouts (whose ages range from eight to 18), and covering a wide range of subjects. Scouts from Lawrence and Owaka and “ Lone ” Scouts are submitting entries this year for the first time. In addition, loan exhibits are being shown by the Otago Model Engineering Society, Model Yacht Club, and Model Aero Club. Mr R. Barnett, who is at present holding a show of English and Scottish paintings and water colours in the Pioneer Hall, is allowing them to remain over the period of the exhibition. It might bo mentioned that Mr Barnett is a personal friend of Lord Baden-Powell, the Chief Scout, having travelled with him to South Africa and Canada, and, consequently, has more than a passing interest in the Boy Scout movement.

An original and “ Scouty ” entertainment by Cubs, Scouts, and Sea Scouts is to bo given at intervals on Friday and Saturday. Refreshments will be supplied by ladies from the group committees at a moderate charge. Representative groups of Scouts and officers from Invercargill, Lawrence, Owaka, and Oamarn are coming to Dunedin to see the exhibition and to meet the visiting commissioners from Christchurch .
