DUE SYDNEY MONDAY MORNING TO AVERAGE 20 KNOTS [Pee Usited Press Association.] AUCKLAND. September 18. When-, the Union Steam Ship Company’s new Tasman liner Awatea left for Sydney at 5 o’clock she was watched by a crowd of over 2,000. There were enthusiastic scenes at. her departure, and the display of streamers was one of the biggest seen at Auckland. No attempt at a record will be made on the Tasman crossing, but the liner is due to arrive at Sydney at 8.10 o’clock ' on- Monday;, morning. Her time from •wharf to wharf will be 2d 13hr and 40min, an exceptionally fast run. which will mean that the vessel will have to average about 20 knots for the crossing.
