A FORTY-YEAR-OLD HORSE

An object of affection as well a* curiosity, Jumbo, oi-e of the oldest horses in the world, has died at the age of 40 at the Home of Best for Horses at Boreham Wood, Hertfordshire, where ho had spent the last 10 years of his life. Owing to his great age Jumbo waa the centre of attraction, and visitor* were astonished when told of his exceptional age. His head has been presented to the Royal Veterinary, College, Camden Town, and will be placed in the college museum. Sir Frederick Hobday, principal of the college, stated that Jumbo- was undoubtedly one of the oldest horses in the world. Anything over 20 years waa a good ago for a horse. He had had actual experience of a horse that reached the age of 42, and he had read of one living to be 48. That, however, was exceptional. 'The horse became' an. adult at six, and for two years after; that was in its prime. The decline started at nine or 10.—‘ The Times.’ ».■
