MINT AUTHORITIES' PROPOSAL METAL NOT PREVIOUSLY USED FrMl Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 17. (Received September 18, at 10 a.m.) The Mint authorities have submitted proposals for a threepenny piece to the Treasury. If Royal proclamation sanctions the coin it will be issued shortly. It ia made of a metal not previously used in_ British coinage, but will not be silver, bronze, or nickel. It will he slightly t larger than sixpence. It’s fate will depend on the public. It may prove popular or share 1 the fate of the old 4s piece. The object of the new coin is to avoid the use of heavy poppers.
