WEATHER FORECAST
STRONG WINDS AND PASSING SHOWERS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton. Orepuki, Blnff, Halfmoon Bay;— Yesterday’s depression has passed away eastwards, but a series of secondaries continues to cross the southern portion of the Dominion. An anticyclone is moving on to the northern and western areas of the Tasman Sea. Forecast; Moderate to strong southwest to westerly winds, reaching gale force at times in the far south. Weather for the most part fine, but with! passing showers at times, more especially in the south. Temperatures cool, with some frosts. Seas rough south of Nugget Point, elsewhere moderate to rather rough. FINE, BUT COLD. A dropping barometer yesterday preceded heavy showers of rain in the afternoon and evening, and .15in was registered, there being 2deg of frost formed after the rains ceased. This morning broke fine, with an overcast sky and a strong northerly wind accentuating the coldness of the tempera* tures. The registrations at 12.30 p ; m. were 54deg maximum and 47deg minimum, as compared with 59.9 and 53deg at' the same time yesterday. For a period ai 24 hours on Thursday corresponding readings were 59.7 and 35deg. Barometric pressure was_ unsteady at! 29. Sin at noon, being .sin lower than, the reading yesterday. Indications at 12.45 p.m. were for a fine but cold afternoon.
