FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) UNLAWFULLY ON PREMISES. James Dowsen and Thomas Lees were each fined 10a and costs for being on hotel premises after hours. MOTORISTS’ OFFENCES. . Hilda Fredrica Bryant, for failing to give way to traffic on the right, was fined £2 10s and costs, and Gordon Harvey Dale was fined 20s and costs (13s) on a similar charge, the magistrate taking into consideration that on the day of the offence it was snowing. George B. Kirkland was fined 5s and costs on a charge of riding an unlightod motor cycle, and was convicted and discharged on a charge of being an unlicensed driver. An unlicensed driver, Noel John Hagerty, was fined 6s and costs. George Coombs Elliot was fined 10s and costs for riding an insufficiently lighted motor cycle. Robert Owen Wilkinson, who drove a car at a speed exceeding 30 miles an hour, was fined £5 and costs. Dangerous driving cost Willie Yee £4 and costs. Peter M'Lean was fined 5s and costs for being an unlicensed motor driver. Albert Bruce Haywood was fined £3 and costs for driving an overloaded truck on a classified road. John , Ernest M‘Carthy was fined 40s and costs for driving 'a heavy traffic vehicle at a speed exceeding 20 miles per hour. Douglas Francis Jenkins and Hugh Morrison were each fined 5s and costs for riding motor cycles without warning devices. For a similar offence Bernard Frank Rosson was fined 10s and costs. . UNLIGHTED VEHICLES. The rider of an unlighted bicycle, George (Ballantyne, was fined 5s and costs. William George Hughes was fined a similar amount for having an unlighted trailer. Martin Matheson, who rode an unlightod motor cycle, was fined 5s and costs. William Benjamin Werges was fined 5s and costs for operating an unlighted motor cycle. WANDERING CATTLE. George Alfred (Brooks was fined 10s and costs for allowing cattle to wander, and Walter Ernest O’Neil was convicted on a similar charge and was_ ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months if called upon. CHIMNEY FIRES. Charles Henry Andrews, Ernest William Hancox, Percy James Harris, and Leslie Tyrie were each fined 5s and costs (3s) for allowing chimneys to catch fire. NEGLIGENT DRIVING. “ The defendant’s car collided with another car in the Octagon, and ho then drove on without rendering any assistance,” said Senior-sergeant Packer of Robert James Burrows (Mr I. B. Stevenson),, who pleaded guilty to negligent, driving, his speed being estimated as between 25 to 30 miles per hour. He was fined £2 10s and costs. Richard John Victor Craigie (Mr M. Joel), whose truck was involved in a collision with a tramcar, admitted a charge of negligent driving.—Ho was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months, conditional on his paying witness’s expenses (8s) and court costs (£1 ss). “ This is a very serious matter,” said Senior-sergeant Packer when William Bain Nicholson was charged with negligent driving and with failing to dim his lights when another car was approaching on the Portobello road. Nicholson’s car was involved in a collision with a vehicle which nearly ended up in the harbour.—He pleaded guilty and was fined £5 and costs (10s). on the negligent driving charge and court costs (10s) on the other charge.
