' One New York Night,' heading the programme at the Octagon, introduces a new team to the public—Franchot Tone and Una Merkei. The picture itself possesses the box office elements that carried ' The Thin Man ' to such successful heights. A cowman from Wyoming who is in the big city looking for a brunette to marry, joins a blonde telephone operator, and together they solve the crime and find romance. The entire story transpires in the hotel lobby and in the various rooms. A masterpiece of timing, the entire action of the story takes place in the exact length of time required to show the production on the screen. Franchot Tone has in the role of Ridgeway, the man from Wyoming in search of a wife, an opportunity to display his light comedy nbility as well as his dramatic talents. Una Merkei, who plays Phoebe, the

blonde telephone girl, has the best role of her career. Never before has she bad the opportunity to portray a romantic lead that involves dramatic as well as comedy delineation. Speed, action, and romance are the high points of ‘ After Office Hours,’ a Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer production, tho supporting feature.
