MAYFAIR
Clark Gable, Loretta Young, and Jack Oakie are the leading players of ‘ Call of the Wild,’ concluding to-night at the Mayfair. The virility of the story by Jack London has been transferred to the screen in this film, and Clark Gable makes a fitting hero, swashbuckling through the gold camps of Klondike of 1897, staking his fortune on the flip of a coin. The colourful characters and beautiful natural scenic backgrounds endow 1 Call of tho Wild ’ with distinction as a picture of romance in the great outdoors. TWO EXCELLENT FEATURES. ‘The Thin Man’s ’ wife becomes a ‘ G Man’s ’ sweetheart in ‘ Whipsaw,’ starring Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy, to be commenced at the Mayfair tomorrow. It is the first appearance of the stars in the same picture. It presents bliss Loy as a fascinating jewel thief and Tracy as a secret service man who tries to trap her through romance. The supporting cast includes Harvey Stephens, William Havrigan, Robert Warwick, Irene Franklin, Wade Boteler, and others. The supporting feature will be ‘ Hands Across the Table,’ featuring Carole Lombard in the role of a manicure girl and Fred Mac Murray as a penniless, engaging socialite. The story revolves around the efforts of Miss Lombard to fulfil a promise she makes to Mac Murray, society “ playboy,” that each shall marry for wealth. Both get their chance to carry out their pact until real romance enters their lives and spoils their plans. An hilarious climax brings the film to an exciting finale.
