INCREASED STAKES

FORBURY PARK TROTS APPOINTMENTS FDR SPRING MEETING An increase in stakes from £2,750 to £3,550, representing £SO a race, was decided on by the Forbury Park Trotting Club at a. meeting of the committee last night. Mr B. S. Irwin presided, and other members present were Messrs T. Fogg, J. Richardson, J. Trcugrove, W. J. L, Goughian, D. C. Jolly, C. R. Hadfield, J. M. Samson, James Mitchell, and H. Archbold.

The regret of the club at the recent deaths of Messrs John Gold (Balclutha) and William Crossan was expressed. It was decided to grant the use of the park to the Dunedin Labour Party for a Mardi Gras on Saturday, October 24, the proceeds to be divided equally between the mayor’s relief fund and the Dunedin branch of the Labour Party. The programme of events' will require to be approved by the committee, so that the park will not be damaged. The Chairman stated that the Department of Internal Affairs required that the main dividend displayed at the totalisator must in future he for £l. not 10s. The idea was to bring all clubs, both racing and trotting, into line. Seven new members were elected. The following committees were appointed : Finance. —Messrs Black, Archbold, Clark, Halliday, Hadfield, and Mitchcll. Grounds.—Messrs Mitchell, Archbold, Hadfield, Neill, Richardson, and Trengrove. Totalisator and Broadcasting.— Messrs Archbold, Black, Clark, Halliday, and Jolly. Catering.—Messrs Trengrove. Fogg, Coughlan, Jolly, Neill, and RichardSO programme. Messrs Coughlan, Black, Fogg, Halliday, Hadfield, Richardson. and Trengrove Track. —Messrs Mitchell, Hadfield, and Richardson. Mr James Black was reappointed treasurer. Mr W. Rudkin was reappointed judge and Mr A. J. Hastings reappointed starter. Mr W. Dingwall was reappointed assistant starter, and Messrs H. E. Connor and B. L. Millier starter’s assistants. Mr J. Sedclon was reappointed clerk of scales. Mr F. Carter was reappointed honorary clerk of the course, and Mr F. Kidd his assistant. Messrs J. Kelleher and P. J. Townsend were reappointed honorary timekeepers The W. F. James Proprietary was

appointed to control the totalisator for the spring meeting. Mr J B. Wootton wus appointed caterer tor the season. it was decided to engage the IVavcrley Boys’ Band for the season.
