WRESTLING
BLOMFIELD V. PENGHEFF Wrestling of a strenuous nature should be seen at the Town Hall tomorrow night, when Lofty Blomlield, champion of New Zealand, will meet George Pencheff, a man who has returned to this country after an absence of five seasons. Though Pencheff is a Bulgarian by birth, he is a naturalised British subject, and has spent a considerable portion of his life in British .countries. He started his wrestling in Bulgaria—the country which produced Dan Koloff, who is his cousin—and he then went to Great Britain. Since then he has wreetled all over the United States. Pencheff
is said to have a wide range of both attacking and defensive holds at his disposal, but in the course of training with Dan O’Mahoney, the Irish exchampion, he perfected the Irish whip, the hold which brought O’Mahoney the title. He has opposed practically all the prominent American wrestlers in his time, and has shown that he is fit to be matched only in the best company.
In Australia he proved one of the most popular wrestlers seen there in recent years, and he has to his credit several decisions over Tom Lurich, the idol of Leichhardt. Like Blomfield, he is an aggressive wrestler, and there should be no lack of interest in to-morrow night’s contest. The Match Committee of the local association confidently expects this contest to be one of the fastest and most exciting ever seen in the local ring. The box plans, which are at the D.1.C., will be closed promptly at 11 to-morrow morning.
